New scientific article on Magdalenian toothed points in the Cantabrian region of Spain

Our new scientific article on serrated points is now available. It analyses the morphometry of these tools with the aim of establishing typological and chronological classifications according to their shape. Jagged points, popularly known as harpoons, are prehistoric tools usually made of bone or antler and whose utility is still unknown today. In the present study, a total of 106 jagged points from the Cantabrian region were analysed, chronologically ascribed to the Magdalenian period, which represent 10% of the total number of known points, and 50% of these objects found in the Cantabrian region. Statistical and microscopic techno-typological analyses have been applied in their study. They help us to understand the utility and typology of these pieces, determining that these tools evolved morphologically throughout the Magdalenian period.
